I don’t want to…

20140426_181217

What do you do when you just “don’t want to” anymore? I’m sure you understand that comment…because we have all been at that point. You may be there right now. There are different levels of this emotion, and some of us have the “I don’t want to’s” on a daily basis. This can simply be habitual thinking, or you may be experiencing a deep and serious emotion of exasperation. We face roadblocks in our lives that can leave us feeling helpless and hopeless. We take the advice of those around us…and we attempt to “see the positive” and pray, pray, pray. Instead of feeling like we are moving forward towards a new direction…we feel like we are being faced with even more. How are we supposed to go through even more…when we already felt like we wanted to give up? Why do things happen to us when we are making even more effort to seek God? These are raw and real human questions. So, what are the answers? Biblical scholars have been trying to answer these questions for centuries. It is not a new subject. We cannot possibly know all the answers to our questions. What we DO know…is that God is not punishing you, or making things happen to you on purpose. God is love. More than anything, God desires for you to be free from the burdens. Many times we only seek God in a more intimate way, when we become desperate for God’s help. We tend to use God as a temporary fix…instead of relying upon God as our source of existence. God gave us His only Son Jesus Christ…so we could be given the opportunity of eternal life. God knows what you are going through today. God gave you the ability to seek His help and be forgiven and delivered…through the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. We must never forget that we cannot give up…because God made a way for you to press through. Surrender your heart to Jesus…who is the way, the truth and the life. Face each day with the hope that we have in Jesus. Build your faith by surrendering each obstacle to God in prayer; not just when you need help…but every single day. Make the effort to build a relationship with God, and He will fight the fight for you, and your life will begin to shift in a new direction.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” JOHN 3:16-17

When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” JOHN 8:12

God is with us.

Are you worrying?

Worrying-is-like-a-rocking-chair

What are you dwelling on? What are you worried about? How much time do you spend in premeditated thought about how a situation or circumstance will be taken care of? Why do we do this to ourselves? We loose sleep…we don’t eat right…we become irritable…and we create headaches and stresses that make it worse. Do you realize that all this exhaustion and effort is our own fault? We gain nothing from trying to have complete control over situations that are out of our control. Have you ever thought of how many times you have heard the statement “give it to God”? The reality is…God is the person who we should be giving all the control. He is the one who controls the universe, so He is more than capable of controlling our situation. In fact, God can take a really horrible situation…and turn it around into something you would never have been able to imagine. God can take your life and begin creating peace and calm within it. It’s all up to how we decide to handle the life we have going on right now. We can begin applying God’s Word to our lives…by really believing what God says. If we start with that simple trust in God’s promises…we can rest assured that things will begin to work out for the good. Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34. Begin today by asking God to show you the way through today. Allow Him to lead you, and you will feel your life balancing out…one day at a time.

My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. PROVERBS 4:20-23

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” MATTHEW 6:25-27

God is with us.

Your Gifts

givinggift
Do you recognize how special you are? Are you aware of your gifts and your unique qualities? So often, we do more self criticism than we do acknowledgment of our value and worth. God created each one of us in a very special way. We all have something different that is precious to this world. Why is it so hard for us to see ourselves in that precious way? Why do we compare and compete with worldly standards? Society attempts to create a mold…that pushes the world into attempting to fit into that unrealistic image. God’s Word says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” ROMANS 12:2 God has given each one of us an opportunity to use the unique gifts He gave us…to glorify Him through our lives.  Are you able to recognize the gifts you have been given? Our gifts aren’t necessarily obvious talents such as art, singing, or playing music. Many times our gifts are powerful in humble and subtle ways. Are you an encourager? Do you have the ability to listen intently without opinion or judgment? Are you a caretaker…nurturing and gentle in action? Do you love to teach, speak, or serve? We all have something special we are good at. Tap into that passion and begin to recognize your value. What are you doing with your gifts? Ask Jesus to guide you and show you how to recognize and use your gifts. We all have a purpose. Allow your life to be filled with your unique passions…which will glorify God and bring light to this world.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.
ROMANS 12:4-6
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-7
God is with us.

Emotional Reaction

NotaSpiritofFear-EclecticAffinity

We have all been around someone who absolutely challenged your emotions. You may have felt anxious due to their high level of anger or anxiety…or you might have felt depleted because of their repeated negativity. Either way, your spirit reacted and your defenses were heightened. It is at these times when we become challenged in our reactions. If we are not careful…we can react without thought. This may mean lashing back with improper words or actions. In many cases…if we have spoken irrationally or acted improperly…we immediately feel regret. As flesh on this earth, we will inevitably face these fleshly emotions. We cannot possibly be perfect…there is no such thing. Even Jesus became angry. The key to facing these life situations is how we learn to control our reactions. We can train ourselves to withhold our immediate actions, words, or thoughts. This is done through spiritual strengthening, by prayer and surrender. Each day we have the opportunity to pray. We can surrender our thoughts, actions, and reactions on a daily basis. By asking God to help you…God will reveal His power in you…by giving you self control. Ask Jesus to help guide your spirit throughout the day. As you grow in your spiritual walk, your spirit will be filled with the compassion of Jesus. You will begin handling more of life’s challenging situations…with patience, love and gentleness.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. GALATIANS 5:22-23

But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 THESSALONIANS 5:8-11

God is with us.

Waiting isn’t easy

10343530_775744972461021_4959727713156604749_n

Waiting. Waiting is something we do on a day to day basis. There are normal routines of waiting for a stop light to change…waiting on the coffee to brew…or waiting to get off work. Then, there are more serious issues that require waiting for lengthy amounts of time. These issues require more than just waiting on time…they require a great deal of daily patience. Whether you are waiting for the results of a job interview or a medical report…waiting isn’t easy. We must dig deep into our faith…and trust that God is in control. But what happens when what you are waiting for takes too long? What if the results aren’t what you expected them to be? How do you react when things don’t go according to your anticipations? This is where we are tested in our faith walk. This is where we find ourselves at a cross road. This cross road is a decision we must make…in order to determine how we will face the outcome of what we have been waiting for. Decide to trust God…no matter what. Decide to lean on Jesus…and believe that HE will carry you through anything. Decide to decide that you will not allow the enemy to manipulate your thinking. Be determined that God will guide you through whatever you are facing. God is the light. His light will show you the pathway through the difficult times.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. ROMANS 12:11-13

This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. 1 JOHN 1:5

God is with us.

Don’t be afraid

Don’t be afraid to let go. All of us have something in our life that we know needs to change. Many times we hold onto things, situations, or even habits that we know are not healthy…simply because the thought of making a change creates discomfort in our minds. It is easy to become complacent in our lives, and allow things to continue on a day to day basis. We think that simply going on about our daily routine…in the same way as usual…will make that thing, situation, or habit go away in time. The reality is, nothing will change until we make an effort to step toward a new direction. You can be relieved…you can unload…you can find peace. It starts with accepting the fact that things need to change. Once you admit that thought to yourself…look to God…and ask Him to show you what to do next. Press past the uncomfortable feeling…the fear of the unknown…and begin thinking towards a better future. It is amazing how God begins to show you signs…give you thoughts…and help you know that you can do anything…through Christ who strengthens you.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. PHILIPPIANS 4:13

God is with us.
