Layla’s Light Blog – Encouragement

Children are our future.

0_0_0_0_250_253_csupload_66092209

Our children are our future. They are precious and innocent young minds…that absorb everything they are surrounded with. They thrive on security…structure…encouragement…and mostly our love. Sometimes the smallest of our actions, can be the biggest impact on their lives. Our lives can get so busy that we can easily become distracted from focusing on follow-through with our children. Make sure that what you say is what you mean. Don’t let other less-important things take precedence over your children. Show your children how valuable they are…by making them priority. Your time and attention is the key element to helping our children develop and learn how to persevere. This is a difficult world we live in today. Teach them the saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the eternal love of God. Give them the solid foundation on which they can stand…rise up…and be the future leaders God has called them to be.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. DEUTERONOMY 6:5-7

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. PROVERBS 22:6

God is with us.

Is fear holding you back?

let-your-faith-be-bigger-than-your-fear-quote-1

The fear of the unknown. Fear can be crippling. Fear can be hindering. Fear can debilitate us in such a way that we tend to stay safe and stagnant in our present circumstance…instead of stepping forward to the future. As we reflect back on our lives, we can all see where we may have postponed or even missed an opportunity…because we let fear stand in our way. This does not mean we do not use common sense. There are times when we must pay attention to those red flag warnings we feel. As our faith and walk with Jesus strengthens, we are more able to discern the times when we should be aware…or when we are simply not trusting the future. God has so much in store for each one of us. He has given each one of us specific gifts and abilities to use for God’s glory. Sometimes we don’t recognize our own gifts, and when we don’t allow ourselves to trust in that nudge we have from God…we are hindering our blessing. Trust that God knows what He is doing…when you feel that pull in a certain direction. Pray about that ‘feeling’ you are having. If the nudge is still there, and you clearly see it could be a positive step in the right direction…then cast out that fear…and step out in faith. Trust in God and allow Jesus to guide you. You have far more capability within you than you realize. You are a vessel in God’s honor. You are going to be used by God in mighty ways! Allow yourself to see your potential. Don’t walk around with fear blinders on…walk around knowing you are wearing the eyes of our Father, who created you to be the mighty example for Him!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. PROVERBS 3:5-6

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach, if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. ROMANS 12:6-8

God is with us.

Why are things happening to me?

bced67115d9137fe33f87907b11a1b3e

Do you ever feel like life is getting harder to face? Are you pressing through days where you face difficulty after difficulty? Does it seem like there are more obstacles to overcome than ever before? This is not a new subject. Often times our human nature tends to question God at these times. We wonder why things are happening to us. It’s hard to understand what we have ‘done’ that may be causing these things to happen. Are we being punished? NO. Nowhere in Scripture does it teach that trials in life are an indication that God is displeased with us. Instead, Scripture indicates that God recognizes our faith and has confidence in our commitment to Him. Wrapping our minds around how human nature works…is impossible.  We must use the wisdom we gain from Scripture to see and evaluate life. This means asking for God’s wisdom to cope with the trials of life, and allowing our hearts to be led by the Holy Spirit. Prayer is essential. Jesus will guide you and help you…when you honestly place your trust in Him. Commit your life to increasing your faith. You can be assured the struggles will become strength, and trials will become testimony.

Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.        PSALM 55:22

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.   JAMES 1:2-6

God is with us.

I don’t want to…

20140426_181217

What do you do when you just “don’t want to” anymore? I’m sure you understand that comment…because we have all been at that point. You may be there right now. There are different levels of this emotion, and some of us have the “I don’t want to’s” on a daily basis. This can simply be habitual thinking, or you may be experiencing a deep and serious emotion of exasperation. We face roadblocks in our lives that can leave us feeling helpless and hopeless. We take the advice of those around us…and we attempt to “see the positive” and pray, pray, pray. Instead of feeling like we are moving forward towards a new direction…we feel like we are being faced with even more. How are we supposed to go through even more…when we already felt like we wanted to give up? Why do things happen to us when we are making even more effort to seek God? These are raw and real human questions. So, what are the answers? Biblical scholars have been trying to answer these questions for centuries. It is not a new subject. We cannot possibly know all the answers to our questions. What we DO know…is that God is not punishing you, or making things happen to you on purpose. God is love. More than anything, God desires for you to be free from the burdens. Many times we only seek God in a more intimate way, when we become desperate for God’s help. We tend to use God as a temporary fix…instead of relying upon God as our source of existence. God gave us His only Son Jesus Christ…so we could be given the opportunity of eternal life. God knows what you are going through today. God gave you the ability to seek His help and be forgiven and delivered…through the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. We must never forget that we cannot give up…because God made a way for you to press through. Surrender your heart to Jesus…who is the way, the truth and the life. Face each day with the hope that we have in Jesus. Build your faith by surrendering each obstacle to God in prayer; not just when you need help…but every single day. Make the effort to build a relationship with God, and He will fight the fight for you, and your life will begin to shift in a new direction.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” JOHN 3:16-17

When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” JOHN 8:12

God is with us.

Are you worrying?

Worrying-is-like-a-rocking-chair

What are you dwelling on? What are you worried about? How much time do you spend in premeditated thought about how a situation or circumstance will be taken care of? Why do we do this to ourselves? We loose sleep…we don’t eat right…we become irritable…and we create headaches and stresses that make it worse. Do you realize that all this exhaustion and effort is our own fault? We gain nothing from trying to have complete control over situations that are out of our control. Have you ever thought of how many times you have heard the statement “give it to God”? The reality is…God is the person who we should be giving all the control. He is the one who controls the universe, so He is more than capable of controlling our situation. In fact, God can take a really horrible situation…and turn it around into something you would never have been able to imagine. God can take your life and begin creating peace and calm within it. It’s all up to how we decide to handle the life we have going on right now. We can begin applying God’s Word to our lives…by really believing what God says. If we start with that simple trust in God’s promises…we can rest assured that things will begin to work out for the good. Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34. Begin today by asking God to show you the way through today. Allow Him to lead you, and you will feel your life balancing out…one day at a time.

My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. PROVERBS 4:20-23

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” MATTHEW 6:25-27

Your Gifts

givinggift
Do you recognize how special you are? Are you aware of your gifts and your unique qualities? So often, we do more self criticism than we do acknowledgment of our value and worth. God created each one of us in a very special way. We all have something different that is precious to this world. Why is it so hard for us to see ourselves in that precious way? Why do we compare and compete with worldly standards? Society attempts to create a mold…that pushes the world into attempting to fit into that unrealistic image. God’s Word says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” ROMANS 12:2 God has given each one of us an opportunity to use the unique gifts He gave us…to glorify Him through our lives.  Are you able to recognize the gifts you have been given? Our gifts aren’t necessarily obvious talents such as art, singing, or playing music. Many times our gifts are powerful in humble and subtle ways. Are you an encourager? Do you have the ability to listen intently without opinion or judgment? Are you a caretaker…nurturing and gentle in action? Do you love to teach, speak, or serve? We all have something special we are good at. Tap into that passion and begin to recognize your value. What are you doing with your gifts? Ask Jesus to guide you and show you how to recognize and use your gifts. We all have a purpose. Allow your life to be filled with your unique passions…which will glorify God and bring light to this world.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.
ROMANS 12:4-6
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-7
God is with us.
