Layla’s Light Blog – Encouragement

Make a difference.

you-can-make-a-difference

As I spent this last week allowing my spirit to draw closer to God, and my heart to seek peace…this question kept coming to my mind. “What am I doing to make a difference?” In all the ‘busyness’ we create in our lives, are we being purposeful in helping this world? No matter how hard you try, there is no way of tuning out of the world. World tragedies are happening all around us, and we cannot ignore this raw pain. It’s heartbreaking to see the evil, and the devastation it causes. So, what can I do to make a difference? Love. Pray. Be available. Trust God. In all the days Jesus spent on this earth…He loved. Jesus prayed. Jesus was available. And despite the suffering, the persecution and the horrific things Jesus faced…He trusted God. If I can learn to show love despite what the world says…I can make a difference. If I can pray for everyone…selfless, heartfelt prayers, seeking God in every situation…regardless if I know them or not…I can make a difference. If I can make myself available to help, to listen, to grow, to guide, and to learn…I can make a difference. If I can purposely trust God, regardless of what I may see, feel or hear..and show others how powerful it is to truly TRUST GOD…then I can make a difference. Why? Why do I need to make a difference? Because Jesus asks us to be the example. We are the disciples for Christ. You and I can and will make a difference in this world if we make an effort to decide to just be true loving people. God is with us in all that we do. He will guide us toward peace and hope if we seek Him. I want to know, that when I die, I made a difference to someone. I want to be remembered for being a light, a positive, spirit-filled, caring person. I choose to live for Christ. I choose a life of joy despite what the world says. I pray you will walk along-side me and seek the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Love one another and make a difference.

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you. PSALM 85:10-12

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. 1 JOHN 4:4-6

God is with us.

A time of rest.

spiritual rest

Every year I commit to allowing myself time to separate from the worldly distractions. This is a time of rejuvenation and spiritual fulfillment. I spend quality time with the Lord, resting in His presence and seeking Him in a much deeper way. Do you ever feel as if you are needing rejuvenation or a closer spiritual connection? We have to purposely make this possible. We cannot continue the exhausted cycle of life, without first maintaining our own spirit. Instead of trying to fill that empty feeling with worldly things, we have to make an effort to fill our hearts with Jesus. Jesus is our sustainer. He is our guide, our nourishment and our helper. If we don’t allow ourselves time to be filled with a deeper level of the love of Jesus, then we aren’t truly been fulfilled. We need Jesus more than we need anything or anyone in this world. I encourage you to take time. Take time to fill your soul with the ultimate fulfillment possible. If you commit to stepping out of your routine to seek spiritual nourishment, God will take care of your responsibilities and duties by providing people or resources to cover you. It is amazing how that happens! This next week, I chose to step away from the electronic devices and social connections. I will rest from my writing, so I can focus on my relationship with Jesus and my family. I pray you will continue to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through prayer and dedication to our Heavenly Father. I will be praying for all of you. I’m so grateful for each one of you. You truly mean a great deal to me. You are beautiful children of our amazing God. May you all know how valuable, worthy, and highly favored you are. God loves you more than words can express. Jesus is with you and He is waiting for you to seek Him in a closer relationship. May you all have a blessed week!

Be still and know that I am God; I will be exhalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. PSALM 46:10

After He (Jesus) had dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. MATTHEW 14:23

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed. MARK 1:35

But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. LUKE 5:16

God is with us.

Gifts from the heart.

woman and man hands with red heart

Give yourself a gift today. Not a material gift that you purchase…but a gift that comes from the heart. When doing something for other people…you will receive the gift of satisfaction and nurturing within yourself. Somewhere within this day…you will find an opportunity to share a random act of kindness with someone you come across. Open up your heart to allow God to share His love through you…towards someone else. These acts of kindness do not need to be big…just small gestures…such as opening up a door…smiling and saying hello…lending a hand when you see there is a need…complimenting someone…or leaving a note of gratitude. The act of sharing kindness with someone…in turn…nurtures your own spirit. You give yourself the opportunity for God to work through you. He will show you how having love and compassion for other’s…can be the ultimate reward for yourself.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. COLOSSIANS 3:17

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess His name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. HEBREWS 13:15-16

God is with us.

Our ultimate counselor.

Prayer

How do you know if you are on the right path in life? Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a life road map? Often times we are faced with uncertainty, as we make decisions about our future. Some days are somewhat easy days…but many times we face tough days…filled with really hard decisions. How are we supposed to make the right decisions, when our minds and emotions are so confused? Prayer. Talk to God. God is our ultimate counselor. Jesus is our helper and our guide. Sometimes we forget that. There is no human on earth that can direct us in the way God can. We need assistance in our life direction every single day. If we make a point to seek God every single morning…then we are prepared and ready to face those hard decisions. Dedicate a few minutes every morning to seek the ultimate counsel of our Heavenly Father. Allow your heart to open up to Jesus, so He can hold your hand throughout the day. As you continue to draw nearer to God on a daily basis…you will begin noticing the nudging’s of the Holy Spirit guiding you along. Seek God, and trust in Him, and you will receive direction to peaceful living.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. PROVERBS 3:5-6

Jesus said: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” MATTHEW 7:7-8

God is with us.

Your beautiful reflection.

images

Take a few moments to look in the mirror today. Spend some quiet time reflecting on what you see today. Do not look at the physical reflection…look deep into your own eyes…and notice how amazing you are. So often we get caught up in the daily rush…only looking at ourselves to see the physical reflection that we prepare the world to see. How often do we take the time to reflect on our growth…our strength…our inner beauty that shines so vibrantly? Every single one of us has had to face an overwhelming, seemingly impossible situation in our past. The experiences we have been through in our lives, mold us into who we are today. We can either develop wisdom and integrity from them…or we can hide from them and mask them…pretending they did not happen. Either way, those experiences have shaped your life. You were forced to grow…forced to be an over comer…and eventually rose up and conquered the battle. It’s time to look at yourself in the mirror and acknowledge exactly how amazing you are. Don’t stuff the experience in your back pocket and act like you didn’t go through it. Look at it, analyze it, and commend yourself for it. Even if no one ever knows the details of what you have overcome…you do. Praise yourself, for God has done a mighty work in you. Praise God for carrying you through it. As we open up our eyes to our own triumphs, we see the Glory of God’s work revealed. Recognize His Hand in what you have been able to achieve, and know that no matter what you face in the future…God’s Hand will be on you…guiding you and carrying you through.

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. JAMES 1:12

So do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. HEBREWS 10:35-36

God is with us.

Letting go of resentments.

release resentment

Resentment. A single word that can be so destructive. We all face times in our lives where we feel our emotions boil. Why do we allow ourselves to fall into the trap of these emotions? We are human, and there are certain seasons in our life when we feel inadequate, inferior, and many times…simply hurt. Whatever the circumstance…humans tend to be human, and if we allow it…our inner spirit can be altered with this overwhelming resentment. Someone or something has fallen into our pathway, and possibly caused a shift in our life structure. What we thought was normal life routine, becomes completely derailed. As humans, we begin to find the reason for the derailment…and many times immediately find someone or something to blame. Often times you have the right to be upset with that particular person or situation…but what good is it going to do, to continue to hold onto that boiling emotion? Let it go. However big the circumstance…no matter how much pain you have endured because of it…holding onto the resentment will only feed your inner fire. Change your perspective of the situation. Begin to see the other person or circumstance as a stepping stone to a better you. I am personally focusing on prayerfully giving up a deep resentment from past abuse…that has inhibited my spiritual growth. We must make conscious choices to step forward in a better way. Resentments only cause us to step backward, and inhibit our growth.  God will not allow you to be left alone in this circumstance, if you seek Him for His guidance. He is watching out for you, and He will help you find that compassion in your heart…that will allow you to see the positive in all situations. Ask God to help you cast out that resentment held within…and mold your emotions into feelings of compassion and understanding.

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. ~ 2 TIMOTHY 2:23-24

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love,  joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. ~ GALATIANS 5:19-22

God is with us.
