From the Heart.

This is the time of year when we hear more about “giving”. How often do we think of giving? We hear how important it is to give, but the act of actually ‘giving’ has become less and less in this world. I can reflect back on my past. I was selfish. I was barely making enough to make ends meet, so how could I consider giving what little I had left over? Any extra profit I made was to go toward my children or my selfish needs. This was the mindset I had before I met my wonderful husband years ago, and before I began seeking a closer relationship with God. Giving doesn’t have to just be monetary. Giving comes from the heart. Give a piece of your life to someone else by simply reaching out to them with an encouraging word. Help someone, when you hear they are in a difficult situation. Offer to mow their lawn; fix their car; or take them some tissues and cough drops if they are sick. Offer simple acts of giving, that build friendship and community. Volunteer or donate to a non-profit organization, even if it’s just a couple times a year…they can always use the help. Pay attention to what organizations are providing in the community. Non-profits offer services and assistance to the community free of charge. Often times they run on a volunteer basis only, and they rely on funding from generous hearts like you. You will be surprised at what is being done right in your own community. See what you can do in your local area. If we could all begin plugging into our surroundings, by finding out where you can help, we will build up our communities and create a sense of unity. God uses each one of us in unique ways. Pray and ask God to show you where you can begin giving. You will be amazed at the blessings you will receive in your heart when you allow your heart to be shared with others.

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus Himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ACTS 20:35

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:7

God is with us.
