Recently I have had several people ask me, “do you work?”. The first couple of times I was asked that question, it didn’t bother me much. However, the following times really stuck in my gut. How can anyone who knows me, not know that I work…multiple jobs? Actually, how can anyone that knows me, not know that I am exhausted and overwhelmed from so much work and responsibility? I found myself really saddened that others had no idea what I really do, or who I am. These emotions required more specific prayer on my part. Not only have I been praying, but I have been analyzing myself. I have taken my petitions to God, and have sought His guidance and wisdom on how to process this. As humans we tend to be very surface people. We have friends and acquaintances that we interact with every day. How well do you know them? Do you ask them questions that have depth and meaning, or do you tend to stick to the basic conversations? Are we all so busy with our own tasks at hand, that we make subconscious decisions, that we don’t have time to listen to others? As this world continues to evolve in technological advancements, we tend to ‘check out’ when it comes to human relationships. We are all guilty of this, as we press through our rigid daily schedules. Let us be reminded that God desires us to encourage and help one another. The only way we can help or encourage one another…is if we get to know one another. Ask simple questions in order to find out what they do throughout each day. Listen. You will be surprised how much you can learn from others…and ultimately, how much you can help each other out.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 THESSALONIANS 5:11
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. HEBREWS 10:23-25
God is with us.
