What does it mean to be loyal? Allegiance, faithfulness, obedience, homage, devotion, dedication and commitment , are just some of the synonyms to loyalty. In this world of manipulation and selfishness, we don’t see evidence of loyalty like we used to. Sadly, people are focused on “what can I do for myself”. It is easy to be swayed from what should be a dedicated standing on an issue or situation. We allow outside influences and the opportunity to selfishly provide a ‘need’ for ourselves, to change our commitment to someone or something. Why are we allowing this world to influence truth? Loyalty is when we commit to the right, the good, and the bonds we have formed as a team. Being loyal to someone means, being true to the word you have given them…to stand by them, and have a common goal ahead. It doesn’t mean we change our minds mid-stream, just because the grass ‘looks’ greener on the other side. Loyalty is faith, love, hope, truth, honesty and dedication…practiced in actions toward our family and friends. God asks us to love one another and help one another. Jesus was the example of love and loyalty to His Father, Our God. Jesus committed to serving God, even upon His death. He did not doubt God. He stood firmly, with bold dedication, and followed through with God’s plan. We are here today, given the free gift of forgiveness and salvation, because of the loyalty Jesus showed our Father God. As we face each day, recognize how you are making decisions within your day. Are you remaining loyal to your family, your friends, and your community? Be careful of your life choices. Are you someone who people can rely upon, trust, and look to, for support? Live a life in which you can look back and know you were loyal, honest, and trustworthy.
Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 TIMOTHY 4:16
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambitions in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. JAMES 3:13-18
